Motorola has announced the launch date of its upcoming Edge series smartphone, the Edge 70 Pro. It will be the third phone in the series after the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion and Edge 70. Part of its popular Edge lineup, the Motorola Edge 70 Pro has been teased to launch with improved low-light photography powered by AI. The smartphone is also confirmed to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme SoC.
Motorola, on X, announced the India launch date for the Edge 70 Pro. It is set to debut on April 22nd at 12 pm, which is next Wednesday. The smartphone will be available via Flipkart, where a dedicated microsite is live with key details. The confirmation comes shortly after Motorola started teasing a new Edge series smartphone for India.
The microsite also confirms the Edge 70 Pro will launch in three colours: Pantone Lily White (marble finish), Pantone Tea (satin luxe finish), and Pantone Titan (tailored fabric finish). In terms of design, the handset looks quite like the other Edge 70 series phones with a curved display and square-shaped camera module.
Motorola has revealed the complete specifications of the Edge 70 Pro on Flipkart. Here’s what to expect:
Motorola is teasing AI-enhanced low-light imaging for the Edge 70 Pro. This is one area most phones struggle with, so if the Edge 70 Pro excels in it, then it would have a huge advantage over rivals. The smartphone will also come with AI-powered zero shutter lag, clarity, colour, portrait and group shot features. It looks like Motorola is relying more on AI than hardware for photography. There’s no mention of a telephoto camera, which the Edge 60 Pro (review) has, so this could be a downgrade, but we’ll still have to test the phone for the final results. The smartphone will also come with auto macro vision and 4K 60 fps video recording support.
The Edge 70 Pro’s MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme SoC is claimed to have scored 2.4 million+ on the AnTuTu benchmark, suggesting reliable performance. The handset will be equipped with a 4,600mm2 vapour chamber cooling system for heat dissipation. You’re also getting a 144Hz refresh rate, which should be good for gaming. For durability, the handset will come with an IP68/69 rating and MIL-810H military-grade endurance.
Motorola is also promising 2+ days of battery life with the Edge 70 Pro’s 6,500mAh battery. This seems like a tall claim, but if true, it would be quite suitable for power users and gamers. This is something we can only determine after reviewing the phone. The handset will come with 90W fast charging support, and the TurboPower charger in the box. On the software front, it will run Hello UI with Android 16 out of the box, and get 3 OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches.
The Motorola Edge 70 Pro will be a new mid-range contender offering a premium design, dependable battery life and performance, good cameras, and a clean software experience. It could be a compelling option for those looking to upgrade to a new mid-range phone. However, we should still wait for the pricing details and compare it with rivals and its predecessor as well.
