The OPPO Reno 17 series is expected to debut soon, succeeding the Reno 16 lineup. OPPO updates its Reno lineup twice every year, with the launch in China first. The latest series is expected to include three phones: Reno 17 Pro, Reno 17, and Reno 17c. There have been leaks coming up about the phones, and a new one reveals the possible spec sheet of the Reno 17 Pro, and about which models will launch in India. Here’s all you need to know.
According to tipster Gadgets Data, the Reno 17 Pro will feature a compact 6.32-inch 1.5K flat OLED display with a high refresh rate. The Reno 16 Pro already offers up to a 144Hz refresh rate, so it could be the same on the 17 Pro. The smartphone is tipped to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 chipset, which is the same as the Reno 16 Pro, so we might not see a significant upgrade in terms of performance.
Its camera specs could include a 200MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens. For selfies, the Reno 17 Pro could house a 50MP front camera. The setup is largely the same as the Reno 16 Pro, but we could see under-the-hood improvements. It’s also speculated that the Reno 17 series could come with support for a telephoto extender, which would greatly improve zoom photography. Battery capacity could see an upgrade as the Reno 17 Pro is tipped to pack a 7,000mAh battery, up from the 16 Pro’s 6,700mAh.
Based on this leak, the Reno 17 Pro may not be a worthwhile upgrade over its predecessor, as the hardware appears to be mostly similar. If the leak is accurate, then Reno 16 Pro users might not see any reason to upgrade.
The tipster added that in India only the Reno 17 and Reno 17c will launch in India. The Reno 17 will launch with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, same as the Reno 16, while the Reno 17c will get the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset. The Reno 16c also uses the same chipset. Since the Reno 16 Pro hasn’t launched in India yet, it’s likely that OPPO will continue with the same strategy of bringing only the Reno 17 and Reno 17c here.
Oppo has yet to make any details official, but from what is leaked so far, the Reno 17 series might not offer substantial upgrades compared to the Reno 16 lineup. So it’s best to wait for official details before making any buying decision.
