OPPO could be preparing to launch a new Reno series smartphone soon. The Reno 17 series is reportedly set to launch in China next month, with two models in development. Like the previous models in the Reno lineup, the Reno 17 series is also said to focus on a trendy design with strong camera hardware. A live image supposedly of the OPPO Reno 17 has also surfaced online, suggesting slight design changes.

OPPO Reno 17 launch tipped

The Reno 17 series might launch next month in China, according to tipster Smart Pikachu. The tipster adds that the lineup will include two models featuring large and small screens. More details include a trendy design and a 200MP camera, similar to the Reno 16 Pro. OPPO already offers striking designs with the Reno 15 series and the Reno 16 models, so it’s interesting to see what it has in store with the Reno 17 lineup.

The upcoming Reno 17 series is also said to bring new editing features for live photos and a dedicated AI button. The Reno 16 series also comes with an AI button. The biggest upgrade, though, would be the rumoured telephoto extender support for the Reno 17 lineup. OPPO has kept this functionality exclusive to the flagship Find lineup, but we could see it arrive on the mid-range Reno 17 series too. This would certainly give the Reno 17 series an edge in terms of long-range photography.

In a separate leak, what’s supposed to be the live image of the Reno 17 was shared by Smartprix. According to this image, the Reno 17 looks quite like the Reno 16, with a minor design change in the camera module. Otherwise, it looks like OPPO isn’t planning any major design refinements for the Reno 17. This contradicts what the other leak says about the Reno 17.

The report adds that the lineup will include only the Reno 17 and not a Pro model this time. It’s also tipped to launch with similar hardware as the Reno 16. These include the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset and triple 50MP cameras. Battery capacity could see an upgrade to over 7,000mAh, and the smartphone could launch with ColorOS 17 (Android 17) out of the box.

OPPO updates its Reno series biannually, so it’s not entirely surprising to see incremental upgrades. But continuing with the same hardware may not sit well with buyers, especially when the predecessor model offers a similar experience. We’ll still have to see what OPPO is actually planning with the Reno 17 series, as these details aren’t official yet.
