POCO confirms MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra, 9500s chipsets for upcoming X8 Pro series

Highlights
  • The POCO X8 Pro series could feature three models, including an Iron Man edition.
  • The X8 Pro models could be based on the Redmi Turbo 5 series that launched in China.
  • The POCO X8 Pro India launch date hasn’t been announced yet.

POCO has started teasing the POCO X8 Pro series globally, suggesting that the new phones could launch later this month. The company has also confirmed the processors that will power the lineup. A teaser shared by the brand shows the series will run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 Ultra and Dimensity 9500s chips.

POCO has not confirmed the exact model names yet, but reports suggest the lineup will include the POCO X8 Pro and a higher-end POCO X8 Pro Max. The X8 Pro is expected to use the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, while the Pro Max could run on the Dimensity 9500s, which is believed to be a slightly scaled-back version of MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 processor.

The phones may also be closely related to devices that launched recently in China. Reports suggest the X8 Pro models could be based on the Redmi Turbo 5 and Redmi Turbo 5 Max, which debuted earlier this month. POCO has often adapted Redmi hardware for global markets with minor changes.

The POCO X8 Pro is tipped to feature a 6,500mAh battery, while the POCO X8 Pro Max may carry a massive 9,000mAh unit, though earlier reports suggested it’ll be around the 8,500mAh mark. It’s being tipped that could be for the global version of the Pro Max. The 9,000mAh battery, if true, would be the largest ever on a POCO phone.

The two models are also expected to differ in size. The X8 Pro may feature a 6.59-inch OLED display, while the Pro Max could come with a larger 6.83-inch panel. Both displays are tipped to support 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Camera hardware could remain similar across the two devices. There could be a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, paired with an 8MP ultrawide lens. The difference may come on the front, where the X8 Pro could use a 20MP selfie camera, while the Pro Max may feature a 32MP sensor.

The series is expected to offer up to 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. The phones may be available in mint, black, and white colours. There’s also talk of an Iron Man Edition of the POCO X8 Pro.

POCO’s X-series phones mostly target buyers who want strong performance and gaming capability without paying high prices. Pricing will likely be a key factor for the POCO X8 Pro series. For context, the POCO X7 Pro 5G launched in India in January 2025, starting at Rs 27,999 for the base 8GB + 256GB model. With newer Dimensity 8- and 9-series chips expected in the upcoming models, the X8 Pro lineup could arrive with a modest price bump over its predecessor. A starting price in the Rs 30,000 – Rs 33,000 range for the base X8 Pro would be in line with that step-up, though POCO has not announced official pricing yet. If the company sticks to aggressive launch offers, the new phones could appeal to users looking for strong everyday performance and long battery life without moving into premium territory. The final value will likely come down to the price gap between the two models and whether the larger Pro Max offers enough extra performance and endurance to justify it.

POCO hasn’t announced a launch date yet, but teasers appearing on Flipkart suggest the phones may launch around March 26th.
