Price hikes are no longer a talking point in the smartphone industry and they are just the new normal. In 2026, you get less for the same money, and that is a reality brands and buyers have both had to come to terms with. The realme 16 5G is a product of its time. It does not try to outspec its predecessor in every area, and it does not need to. Instead, it brings a slimmer design, a massive 7,000mAh battery, and a new selfie mirror to the table, carving out its own identity.

The realme 16 5G is priced at Rs 31,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, Rs 33,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant, and Rs 36,999 for the top 12GB + 256GB model. It goes on sale April 6 via Flipkart and the realme online store in Air Black and Air White colours, with pre-orders available now. Here’s all you need to know about this phone:

What we know about the Realme 16 5G

Realme is positioning the 16 5G as a more practical, battery-first update rather than a straight spec upgrade over the realme 15. The new model is smaller and lighter at 6.6-inch and 183g versus the 15’s 6.8‑inch, 187g body, which should make it easier to handle one‑handed and slip into pockets more comfortably. You also get IP66/IP68/IP69/69K ratings and dual speakers this time, so durability is a lot better on the new device.

On the other hand, some key specs have been dialled back. The realme 15 ran the Dimensity 7300 SoC with 80W charging, a 6.8‑inch 144Hz AMOLED, a 50MP OIS main camera and an 8MP ultrawide. The realme 16 5G moves to the Dimensity 6400 Turbo with UFS 2.2 storage, a smaller 6.57‑inch 120Hz AMOLED panel, 60W charging, and a simpler 50MP main + 2MP secondary setup with no OIS and no ultrawide lens. The battery capacity stays at 7,000mAh, so endurance should still be a key advantage on both, but charging time will likely be slower on the 16.

Cameras are a bit of a mixed bag. The Realme 16 5G switches to a Sony IMX852 50MP main sensor, which should help with detail and focusing, and keeps the 50MP front camera along with the new “Selfie Mirror” cut-out on the rear to help you frame shots with the primary sensor. However, you lose optical stabilisation and the extra versatility of the 8MP ultrawide that the realme 15 had. Video is also capped at 1080p on the 16 instead of the dual 4K support realme pushed with the 15. Stay tuned for the Realme 16 comprehensive review to learn more about its camera performance.

On the software side, the 16 5G launches with Android 16 and realme UI 7.0, so it should go one major update further than the realme 15, which shipped with Android 15. Combined with the higher IP rating and bigger cooling area, it is clearly tuned more for long-term durability and consistent day‑to‑day use than peak performance.

Should you buy the Realme 16 5G?

If you look purely at spec sheets, the realme 15 still comes across as the more exciting phone: faster Dimensity 7300+ silicon, 144Hz panel, OIS, an ultrawide camera and 80W charging at similar price bands. The realme 16 5G instead offers a slimmer, lighter chassis, higher IP66/68/69/69K protection, stereo speakers, and the selfie mirror while keeping the same 7,000mAh battery. So it makes more sense for someone who values battery life, durability, and a more compact in‑hand feel over raw performance or camera versatility.

If you are coming from an older budget phone and want something that will comfortably last a couple of days, survive rain and drops, and still take good daytime photos, the realme 16 5G looks like a sensible option. If you are already on the realme 15 or care a lot about gaming performance, ultrawide photography, or the fastest charging, the older phone or other rivals like the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion (review) or Redmi Note 15 Pro (review) will be the better pick.
