Realme C65 vs Redmi 12 5G performance comparison: the battle of budget 5G smartphones

The Realme C65 (review) is a new budget offering by the brand that features the latest MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC. At a starting price of Rs 10,499, the smartphone claims to be one of the fastest-performing devices at its price range. To test its claims, let’s compare it with another popular budget smartphone, namely the Redmi 12 5G (review), which comes with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.

Geekbench

The Geekbench benchmark test evaluates the CPU performance of a smartphone. The Realme C65 scored 789 on the single-core test and 1,981 on the multi-core test. In comparison, the Redmi 12 registered a score of 923 on the single-core test and 2,203 on the multi-core test. As per the benchmark result, the Redmi 12 5G offers better performance compared to the Realme C65 5G in both regular and demanding tasks.

Winner: Redmi 12 5G 

AnTuTu

The AnTuTu test evaluates the comprehensive performance output of a smartphone and scores across different metrics such as CPU performance, GPU performance, memory (RAM and storage) and UX (user experience).

Unlike the Geekbench result, the aggregate AnTuTu scores of both smartphones show a negligible difference. While the Realme C65 scores better in GPU performance, the Redmi 12 5G makes up for it in its memory performance. Both smartphones should offer a similar performance output, as per the result. 

Winner: Tied 

Throttling test

To gauge the performance output of the smartphones under throttling, we tested both through the Burnout benchmark app. At the end of the throttling test, the Realme C65 showcased a performance output of 64.7 percent, and the Redmi 12 registered a performance output of 50.8 percent. The result suggests that the Realme C65 works better under stress.

Gaming test

For the gaming test, we played Call of Duty: Mobile and BGMI on both smartphones for roughly 30 minutes each. The Redmi 12 5G surprisingly supports ‘Very High’ resolution on COD: Mobile and offers an average frame rate of 40-45 FPS. The Realme C65, meanwhile, can play the game at Medium graphic settings and delivers a frame rate of around 35-40FPS. In BGMI, both the Realme C65 and Redmi 12 5G can support up to HD graphic settings and deliver around 40FPS (on High frame rate settings).

In terms of thermals, the Realme C65 showed a total temperature increase of 18.9 degrees C and an average temperature rise of 9.5 degrees C, compared to the total rise of 11.3 degrees C and an average temperature rise of 5.65 degrees C on the Redmi 12 5G. Thanks to its superior thermal management, the Redmi 12 5G wins the round. 

Winner: Redmi 12 5G 

Verdict

In the performance comparison test, the Redmi 12 5G outperforms Realme C65 5G. It offers better thermal management and outpaces the Realme C65 in CPU performance. If you’re on a budget and your top priority is a smartphone that performs well, the Redmi 12 5G is a solid choice.

It is important to note, that aside from thermal management, the Realme C65’s performance output is quite close to the Redmi 12 5G. The device also comes with a higher 120Hz refresh rate panel and IP54 rating compared to the Redmi 12 5G, which are compelling features in this price range.
