Sony has launched the IER-M500 wired in-ear monitors in India, targeting musicians, performers and listeners who prefer a wired connection for monitoring and playback. The earphones use a compact 5 mm dynamic driver and a sealed design for passive noise isolation, with Sony also including fitting accessories intended to keep them secure during movement.

The Sony IER-M500 costs Rs 10,990 in India and is available in Black, Clear, Red and Blue finishes. It can be purchased through Amazon, Flipkart, Real Image, Sound Glitz, Headphone Zone and other offline retailers.
At this price, the IER-M500 sits in a segment where buyers can choose between wired IEMs designed primarily for monitoring and more feature-heavy wireless earbuds. The Sony model gives up conveniences such as active noise cancellation and Bluetooth in favour of a direct wired connection, which can be preferable for musicians and users who prioritise consistent wired playback.
Features and specifications
The IER-M500 uses a 5mm dynamic driver with a claimed frequency response of 10Hz to 40,000Hz. It has a 16-ohm impedance at 1kHz and sensitivity of 103dB/mW. Sony uses a sealed housing and internal acoustic structure designed to reduce external noise without electronic noise cancellation. The package includes multiple noise-isolating ear tips, along with fitting supporters that help keep the earphones securely positioned while moving.
The earphones connect through a 1.6-metre Y-type cable terminating in an L-shaped stereo mini plug. Sony has also included an adjustable cable clip to reduce cable movement and contact noise, which can be useful during live performances. The company says the cable has been tested for repeated bending and the earphones have undergone water-resistance testing for stage use.
The IER-M500 weighs around 6.9 gms without the cable, keeping the earpieces relatively light. A carrying pouch is also included. The IER-M500 makes more sense for a specific use case than as a general replacement for wireless earbuds.
At Rs 10,990, the IER-M500 enters a competitive wired IEM segment. The Sennheiser IE 200, currently priced at Rs 9,990 in India, uses a larger 7 mm dynamic driver and offers a detachable cable with MMCX connectors, while its tuning is aimed at a neutral, detailed sound. Shure’s SE215 is another established option for stage monitoring, with Sound Isolating technology rated to block up to 37dB of noise and a detachable cable that can be replaced or adapted for wireless use. Audio-Technica’s ATH-E50 moves to a single balanced-armature driver and a detachable 1.6m cable, but costs more at Rs 16,999. The Sony therefore sits between these options on price, with its strongest case being the secure fitting system and stage-oriented design rather than the size of its driver alone. Its wired design, passive isolation and fitting system are useful for monitoring, while everyday users may find Bluetooth earbuds more convenient.
