Tecno has announced the launch of its upcoming budget 5G smartphone, the Tecno Pop X 5G. Tecno has built its POP series around affordable smartphones that focus on essentials like battery life, big displays, and accessible pricing for first-time and budget users. The device is positioned as a performance-first offering in the entry-level 5G segment, combining a large battery, RAM expansion, and durability features—areas that are increasingly becoming key differentiators in sub-Rs 15,000 smartphones.
The Tecno Pop X smartphone is scheduled to launch in India on April 20th at 12 pm. The handset is confirmed to be sold via Amazon. More availability details and launch offers are expected to be announced as the launch day comes closer.
The smartphone packs a 6,500mAh battery with 45W fast charging, a combination that’s more than enough for regular to moderate usage. Most rivals are now offering 7,000mAh batteries, but even with a 6,500mAh capacity, the phone should still be capable of lasting longer than a day.
The Tecno Pop X 5G will come with up to 18GB extended RAM, which includes virtual RAM expansion. This should help with smoother app switching and background multitasking, especially useful for gamers and anyone using the phone for intensive tasks. Tecno is also highlighting its USRP 3.0 technology, claiming up to 8X improved network performance. Real-world gains will depend heavily on network conditions. It also includes AI-powered noise cancellation, a small but meaningful addition for users who rely heavily on voice calls or online meetings.
The TECNO POP X 5G features a sleek design with an aerospace-grade aluminium camera module. Speaking of the camera design, it’s a slim horizontal camera bar like the Tecno Pova Slim, but with the sensors and LED flash separated. The smartphone also comes in two colour options, where one is blue, and the other is a mix of silver and green with a patterned finish.
On the durability front, the device comes with MIL-STD-810H certification (tested for drops up to 1.5m), and IP64-rated dust and splash resistance. The combination is quite standard for budget phones.
Based on the details we know so far, the Tecno Pop X 5G makes sense if you want a stylish and durable design with reliable battery life, performance-focused features for multitasking and gaming. However, since we don’t know the complete details yet, you might still want to consider the phone’s camera quality, and need proven performance from a known chipset.
