Vivo launched its premium mid-range S60 series earlier this year in China. The lineup is expected to get an upgrade soon, with the Vivo S70 tipped to arrive as early as November. Vivo’s S series focuses on offering flagship-level hardware with a stylish design and premium cameras. This time, Vivo might be doing a first by adding support for a telephoto extender for the S70 series. Here’s what has been leaked.
Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu has shared a new post about a series of mid-range camera phones that will start to launch in China next month. The post doesn’t explicitly mention which phones, but it includes Vivo S70 as a hashtag. More interestingly, the tipster adds that one of these brands will have a large-sensor periscope lens and teleconverter. It’s only speculation, but it could be the Vivo S70 smartphone in question.
If it is indeed the Vivo S70, the addition of a telephoto extender would give the phone support for longer zoom without compromising on image quality. The smartphone is also said to feature a large-sensor periscope lens, which would be an upgrade over the Vivo S60’s 50MP periscope lens. With this setup, the Vivo S70 would offer strong and capable camera hardware without the flagship pricing.
Vivo has been offering telephoto extender support with its flagship phones and introduced it with the X300 FE earlier this year. Now it looks like Vivo is planning to extend this to the S series, which is just a tier below the flagship lineup.
Not just Vivo, OPPO is also rumoured to launch the Reno 17 next month with a telephoto extender. OPPO has also kept this feature exclusive to the flagship lineup, but it looks like that may not be the case for long. This also suggests that brands are getting more serious about smartphone photography, not just for the flagship segment but the mid-range too. If you’ve been wanting a camera-centric phone, the Vivo S70 could be worth waiting for, especially now that it’s rumoured to get telephoto extender support.
