Vivo to unveil OriginOS 7 on September 16th, here’s what to expect from the Android 17-based skin
While Xiaomi may have already pulled the curtain back on HyperOS 4 a few weeks ago, Vivo is all set to announce its upcoming Android 17-based skin in the third week of September, just a day earlier than ColorOS 17. Said to come pre-installed on the Vivo X500 series, OriginOS 7 appears to emphasise revamped visuals, smooth interactivity, and animations, as seen in the teasers so far.

OriginOS 7 to launch on September 16th in China
Vivo is hosting its yearly vivo Dev Conference (VDC) on September 16th, during which it’ll announce OriginOS 7 and BlueOS 4, a dedicated platform for smart wearables, smart home products, and IoT devices. Ahead of the official unveil, the company has detailed several key changes and features coming to OriginOS 7, including a liquid, glass-like interface, Stage Manager-like multitasking capabilities, and faster app loading, responsiveness, and graphics rendering.
OriginOS 7 key features and improvements
Liquid Glass aesthetics: OriginOS 7 is said to go all out on Liquid Glass-like design, featuring three transparent texture types to choose from: Real, Natural, and Soft. Depending on the texture type, the entire interface will adapt and display elements with glass and light effects. These include lockscreen clock and widgets, bottom navigation bars, buttons, and more.

Atomic Workbench: OriginOS 7 offers extensive multitasking options beyond the traditional split screen and floating windows. Just like macOS’ Stage Manager, Atomic Workbench allows users to open up to five apps in a side panel and switch between them instantly and interruptibly. This feature was previously limited to Vivo’s large screen-based devices, such as foldables. It’s good to see the company bringing it to candybar phones to enhance productivity and streamline workflows.
Upgraded Blue River Engine: The Blue River engine, Vivo’s proprietary core system architecture designed to rebuild how OriginOS handles computation, display rendering, and system-level coordination, has been further improved to deliver a smoother and snappier phone usage experience.
Under-the-hood improvements: OriginOS 7 brings 14 percent uplift in rendering efficiency, smaller storage space taken up by the system, 19 percent improvement in page-switching response speed, and up to 12 percent improvement in application startup speed.
While OriginOS 6 was a major step up from Funtouch OS 15 for global Vivo and iQOO users, teasers suggest that OriginOS 7 will focus on refining what’s already out there by introducing new elements throughout the interface, even if it may seem inspired. Once the skin debuts in China, it shouldn’t be long before Vivo announces the global debut of OriginOS 7.
Furthermore, once the beta update starts rolling out, Vivo and iQOO’s flagship devices, such as the Vivo X300 series and iQOO 15, are expected to receive it first, giving users an early preview.
