A new HyperOS leak suggests Xiaomi is working on its next foldable with a wider design than the Mix Fold 4. A Gizmochina report, based on a Weibo post from Beginner’s Review, says the software build points to a device that could move Xiaomi away from the slimmer book-style foldable format and towards a broader inner display layout.
Based on the report, the leaked UI has already been overlaid on renders of Huawei’s Pura X Max, and the proportions look convincing enough to support the wider-form-factor theory. That does not confirm the hardware by itself, but it does suggest Xiaomi is testing a different foldable shape.
The device is still being referred to by several names, including Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, Xiaomi 18 Fold and Xiaomi 17 Fold. Early rumours also point to a Leica-backed triple camera setup, possibly led by a 200MP main sensor. Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chipset is also expected, along with HyperOS multitasking improvements and a refined hinge.
Why it matters
For buyers, the bigger change here would be in day-to-day use. A wider foldable could make multitasking, reading and media use feel more natural while also helping Xiaomi stand out in a market where many foldables still follow a similar design.
If Xiaomi does go ahead with this layout, the phone could feel more practical than older Mix Fold models for everyday use. It would also make the device easier to position against rival foldables that still use narrower inner screens. Apple is also reportedly exploring a similar wider foldable format, which could make this a more interesting area to watch.
There is still no official word from Xiaomi, and the final specifications could still change before launch. Current reports point to a possible China debut in August 2026, while international availability remains unclear. Xiaomi has not launched a foldable in India yet, so a local release for this rumoured device also looks unlikely for now.
