Apple’s foldable iPhone has been the subject of many leaks and rumours for a while now, and this year could finally be the one when we see the Cupertino giant launching it. As more rumours gather steam, the latest comes from a case manufacturer, whose newly surfaced renders appear to reveal the design of the device widely expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup this year in September.
While Apple has yet to acknowledge the existence of a foldable iPhone, reports suggest the device could be marketed as the iPhone Ultra and positioned as the most premium model in the company’s smartphone portfolio.
Foldable iPhone Ultra case leak
The leaked case renders that surfaced on Weibo show the foldable device from multiple angles and align with several details that have surfaced in previous reports. The phone appears to feature a book-style folding design with a dual-camera setup housed in a camera island that resembles the design language introduced on the rumoured iPhone Air.
One notable detail is the apparent absence of built-in MagSafe magnets. If accurate, users may need a compatible case to access magnetic wireless charging accessories, though it remains unclear whether the omission is related to the case design itself or the device’s internal hardware.
The renders also suggest Apple has placed the volume buttons along the top edge of the folded device, while the power button sits on the right side. A cutout beneath the power key is believed to accommodate an antenna band.
Previous leaks have claimed the foldable could measure just 4.7 mm when unfolded and 9.23 mm when folded, potentially making it one of the thinnest foldable phones on the market. No surprises there as Apple has presumably spent years trying to perfect the design and it wouldn’t be fitting for it to settle for any less. The device is also tipped to feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner screen.
Rumoured specifications for the iPhone Ultra include a 48MP primary camera, the next-generation A20 Pro chipset and a battery capacity of around 5,500mAh. Reports also point to Touch ID returning through a fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button rather than relying solely on Face ID.
For buyers interested in foldables, many of the key questions remain unanswered, including durability, pricing and software features. However, the latest leak suggests Apple may be prioritising portability and thinness while retaining a familiar iPhone design language. If Apple’s rumoured focus on thinness and premium features appeals, it might be worth holding off on a purchase until September’s expected announcement, especially if you prioritise ecosystem integration.
