Samsung Galaxy Alpha review: putting the pedal to the metal

Oct 31 2014 By Deepak Dhingra

There’s no doubt in our minds that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is one of the best phones the brand has outed yet. Apart from its low-res screen and non-expandable storage, it’s difficult to find fault with it. Sure, the camera is scared of darkness and the battery life is average, but it still shines as a loaded smartphone worth considering for those who need a compact and handy daily driver that doesn’t skimp on power or features. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (review) comes real close as another worthy, albeit slightly pricier alternative, and stands out thanks to its waterproof capabilities and a very capable camera. The dose of metal does help the Alpha’s cause though, so we’ll have to leave the final call between the two to you. And then there’s the Apple iPhone 6, which also entices with its gorgeous design and iconic stature, but asks you to shell out even more. At Rs 39,990, the Alpha doesn’t come cheap… making it out of reach for most. If you can shell out the dough though, it’s an option worth thinking twice over.

Must NOT Buy !
31 Oct 2014 By Ekansh Nayal On

Looking at the specs of Alpha it simply looks like Samsung just doesn't want to learn from the mistake it committed in China --> In 2-3 years, Xiaomi surpassed Samsung to become the leader in China !nnNow that Xiaomi has come to India, Samsung should rethink its strategy but it still is arrogant to Indian customers !! nnComparsion:nXiaomi Mi3 @ Rs 14000: 5 inch, Full HD (1080p) Screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 3050 mAh batterynSamsung Alpha @ Rs 38000: 4.7 inch, HD (720p), Samsung Octa processor, 1850 mAhnn1850 mAh won't be enough for the FINGERPRINT SCANNER let alone 3G/4G services ! nWhy should I pay more 1.5 times the price of Mi3 when the Alpha's specs are inferior and Samsung is NOT a status symbol brand too !nnIf Samsung could prove that it is as premium a brand as Apple, then such exorbitant prices can be accepted !nnMeanwhile a funny line by Samsung - "The Galaxy Alpha is definitely for those who like to express themselves" !! Why would someone (rich enough to buy Galaxy Alpha) want to express themselves through a phone that looks similar to 10 other phones offered by Samsung! 1st metal frame phone by Samsung and Samsung is considering it a huge product innovation!nnIt seems Samsung no longer desires to be a market leader in India !!

You gotta be kidding me. Stupid Exynos 1.3GHz and 1.8GHz, 1860 mAh battery for 37K. This is a piece of junk at this price. This should not cost more than 22K. The only thing this has got is 4G, and even that does not justify the price. And this will surely lag.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs Apple IPhone 5s 32GB

Both the phones have their pros and cons, lets analyze:-

    Advantages of Samsung Galaxy Alpha:-

1.Octa Core CPU:-More cores result in better parallelism, meaning more tasks can be processed in parallel without slowing down the User Interface

2.Faster CPU:-Faster CPU means more smooth experience.

3.More RAM:-More RAM means more applications can run at the same time, which makes the device faster.

4.Bigger Screen:-Reading, browsing internet and watching movies is more pleasing experience on a bigger screen.

5.Better Screen Resolution:- More resolution means sharper and crisper screen.

6.Slimmer:-Slimmer devices are easier to carry .

7.Better Camera Resolution:- More resolution generally means better picture quality, though it's not always necessary.

8.Bigger Battery:-It can generally last more time.

    Advantages of Apple iPhone 5S

1.Has Fingerprint Sensor:-Fingerprint sensor support allows you to quickly unlock your device using your fingerprint.

Verdict - In my opinion, Samsung Galaxy Alpha is better overall performance and price ,if you need fingerprint sensor and if you are brand conscious  you can go for Apple iPhone 5S  .
