Sony VAIO E SVE14A15FN Laptop (Core i5 2nd Gen/4 GB/640 GB/Windows 7/1)

Heads up: This review is for nerds only..nThis is 2nd VAIO I've used plus there are 3 different VAIOs around me all the time (owned by my room-mates). So this review will be based on overall VAIO line-up and where exactly this model stands.nnNOTE: Since most of the tech-specs are given in Product description, I won't be repeating them here again. I'll only tell you what lies underneath that might trouble/help tech enthusiasts. :)nnNow, first things first. This VAIO sports an Intel i5 Sandy Bridge processor. Means it has Intel HD3000 as processor graphics which is 384MiB (of course it uses RAM) as well as it also has discrete AMD GPU which has 1GiB memory (no RAM used here). So it has an AMD Switchable Graphics application through which we can assign either Power Saver (Intel HD3000) or High Performance (AMD GPU) mode for each and every application individually.nnNext, it has 4GiB of DDR3 RAM which is fit into only 1 memory slot out 2. So we can either buy only 1 RAM module of 4GiB or we can go for 1 or 2 8GiB modules. (I, being a student, must consider all the financial conditions here. :D).nnNow, the hard disk. It has 640GiB storage out of which 40GiB is recovery partition (which I claimed back on very first evening of the purchase).nnNow the unseen stuff.n1. This VAIO (like every other new laptop) supports UEFI, and comes with GPT by default. So, Multi-OS enthusiasts might face trouble here as most Linux distroes and EVERY Microsoft OS before/below Windows 7 x64, does not support UEFI/GPT yet.nnBut its a treat for Hackintosh enthusiasts for they can boot right through RETAIL Mac OS X.. YAYYY!!!!nNOTE: UEFI does support Legacy boot mode so you can still have MBR scheme. Just like I did.nn2. Sony has always been ***** when it comes to customization and tweaking. So living up to the reputation, the Aptio UEFI Setup Utility they provide is way more restricted than any other out there. It doesn't even provide you the Shared Video Memory for processor graphics. So forget about GPU selection between Processor and Discrete. I am yet to find proper BIOS Mod yet. This troubles most when you boot up a Linux distro and find that it has only detected processor graphics and that too of 64MiB. AMD does not provide Switchable Graphics for Linux yet. And even though AMD GPU is detected in Linux, installing latest drivers won't work. This results in machine overheating. My exhausts sometimes blow air like furnace (78°C, Yeah, I measured it.. :D). But don't worry. Laptop won't break down.nnFINAL VERDICT: Very good laptop for End-Users (rating: 8/10) and nice challenge for tech enthusiasts (rating: 8/10).nP.S.- Black and Red combination just hits it off.. :D

hello guys!!! i got this laptop few days ago.so iam going to share my experience with you.guys looks wise this machine is just awesome.having glossy skin,moon light keyboard,metallic body around speakers,etc etc.the most important and awesome thing in this machine is its resolution which is 1600*900 in 14" screen.this is like full hd for 14"screen.i think no other laptop can provide high resolution like this product.and the main thing it has 2 graphic card one is amd radeon and another one is intel hd.so guys this machine is for those persons who are fanatic for movies,games,songs and this is a powerful machine too having ram 4 gb.it has dolby speaker .sound is just awesome.but the problem in keyboard can change your mind.keyboard seems too poor in quality wise.but the overall laptop is awesome,outstanding.i suggest u to guys go for it.no product can compete this sony's notebook in this range.
