Highlights
  • Blaupunkt launches its first QD MiniLED TV in India
  • The Smart TV lineup features 65-inch and 75-inch variants, starting at Rs 94,999
  • The 4K QD MiniLED TV comes with the support of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Blaupunkt marks its entry in the premium smart TV segment with the launch of its first Mini QD TVs in India. With the launch, Blaupunkt aims to bring its legacy of audio supremacy into home entertainment, combining Dolby Vision, a 120Hz refresh rate with MEMC, and 108W Dolby Atmos-certified sound with six speakers. Enough with scratching the surface, let’s take a deep dive into specification, price and availability.

The new Mini LED TV lineup has 65-inch and 75-inch variants exclusively available on Flipkart, priced at Rs 94,999 and Rs 1,49,999, respectively. The launch offers include 12 months of no-cost EMI and a 10 per cent discount on selected credit cards.

Display

The Blaupunkt TV is powered by QD-MiniLED technology, aiming to deliver striking visuals with a claimed 1500 nits peak brightness, paired with a claimed 100,000:1 contrast ratio for crystal-clear clarity even in well-lit environments. Meanwhile, the contrast ratio allows for deeper blacks while maintaining bright highlights thanks to local dimming.

The 4K panel reproduces 1.1 billion colours paired with the support of Dolby Vision, which allows for better visuals and higher brightness while also maintaining the blacks for a life-like viewing experience. There is also support for HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), which is just another HDR format that comes in handy in TV broadcasting or watching live sports. Talking about the viewing experience, it features a sleek bezel-less design with a metal base, which adds to its premiumness.

The Blaupunkt Smart TV supports a 120Hz refresh rate with MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation). This means that the TV is not a native 120Hz display, so those of you with a gaming console like the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be able to game at a maximum of 60FPS. There is also support for ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), which allows for smooth, lag-free performance with minimal motion blur in games.

Sound

The TV supports a Dolby Atmos-certified 108W sound system, featuring a six-speaker setup paired with two subwoofers, which should result in a theatre-like surround sound experience. However, we will comment more on the TV once we receive it for review, to better understand the system and its optimisation.

Connectivity and Ports

The TV comes with a built-in Chromecast and AirPlay to stream content from the device directly, combined with access to 1000+ apps. On the connectivity side, there is support for Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band wifi for reliable connectivity. Out of the box, it comes with a Google Assistant-enabled remote for effortless voice control.

The Blaupunkt Smart TV comes equipped with three HDMI ports, along with two USB ports and a headphone jack for added connectivity.

Alternative

The specifications of the Blaupunkt QD-MiniLED TV are the same as those of the Thomson QD-MiniLED TV we reviewed earlier. That’s also because in India, both Thomson and Blaupunkt are manufactured by SPPL. So the manufacturer may be offering homogeneous features to cater to different audiences that are more familiar with Blaupunkt or Thomson as brands. The Blaupunkt TVs are more premium-priced than their Thomson counterparts, so it will be interesting to see how this pricing strategy works. We can expect to see a reduction in the price of the TVs, as we have recently seen a GST cut for large-screen TVs. We have shared some questions about the same with Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO – SPPL, KODAK TV India, Thomson TV India and Blaupunkt TV on how the changes in GST will help make home entertainment devices more affordable for consumers.

If you are in the market to pick up a TV under Rs 1,00,000, you are spoilt for choice. From Sony’s 2023 flagship, the Sony 55-inch X90L, to the 65-inch Bravia 3, to the 65-inch Samsung QLED TV QA65QEF1AULXL, there are numerous options for consumers seeking a large-screen entertainment setup.
