Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold8 in July this year, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. It’s Samsung’s first wide foldable with a 6.9-inch main display and a 4.1-inch cover display. As the name suggests, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is also Samsung’s eighth foldable, meaning the company has refined this lineup over the past eight years with better hardware, functionality, and durability. Samsung explains the process behind making the Galaxy Z Fold8, the materials used, and the tests conducted to ensure the foldable’s durability.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 manufacturing process
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is one of the lightest and thinnest foldables, weighing 201g and measuring 4.5mm unfolded/9.7mm folded. Samsung said that it reexamined around 270 components and more than 180 types of auxiliary parts to optimise the Galaxy Z Fold8’s key parts to ensure this thin and lightweight design. It also decided to use Flex Titanium, which is an ultra-thin titanium-alloy film with an enhanced titanium support plate to keep the Fold8 strong, especially around the folding display.
These materials also helped achieve a 10 percent thinner display module and maintain its stability over time. For the frame too, the Advanced Armor Aluminum is said to provide the rigidity and resistance to permanent deformation required for everyday use, while keeping the foldable light.
To make sure the Galaxy Z Fold8 remains strong and durable, it goes through more than 100 reliability validation tests to evaluate how the complete device continues to perform as those stresses interact over time. It also highlights how each area of the Z Fold8 is carefully checked, like the display, the hinge, the frame, and internal structure—all this to keep the device strong and easy to hold. Samsung says that its long history of eight generations of foldable engineering has “allowed it to identify these real-world stress points and address them across the device as a system, rather than treating durability as a single specification.”
According to Samsung, its goal isn’t to just make a thinner or lighter foldable, but one that is built for long-term use. So, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 may be ultra-portable, it still doesn’t compromise on structural durability, display protection, performance, or reliable
operation over time.
