Low-priced QWERTY phone

The Nokia Asha 201 features a 2.4-inch LCD display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Running on the Nokia’s proprietary Asha OS comes with a QWERTY keypad, making it a suitable phone for heavy texters.

On the camera front, the Asha 201 packs a 2MP shooter which can also record videos at 10 fps. It houses 64MB of inbuilt storage and 32MB RAM, along with a micro SD card slot that can accommodate up to 32GB of external storage.

Connectivity-wise, the Nokia Asha 201 features GPRS, Bluetooth and micro USB v2.0. It gets juice from a 1,430mAh battery which claims up to 7 hours of talk time.

Verdict

The Nokia Asha 201 is a low cost QWERTY handset with a great build quality and a long battery life. However, absence of basic connectivity features like 3G or Wi-Fi makes the device limited in terms of usability.

  • No 3G or Wi-Fi - can the Asha survive in today`s world?

Nokia might be pushing at the high end of the smartphone world with its Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, but the company also has a budget series, Asha. The Nokia Asha 201 is designed for the chatterbox. And costing around £65 SIM-free it sounds like a steal, with its QWERTY keyboard just crying out to be typed on. Our sample came from Vodafone, which sells it for the even cheaper UK price of £45 on pay as you go. At that price you clearly ha...

Pros: Good keyboard, Very long battery life, Nice Twitter and Facebook integration, MicroSD card slot, Solid build,

Cons: No 3G, No Wi-Fi, Poor camera, Slow processor, Small, low resolution screen,

Verdict: The Nokia Asha 201 is a low cost `feature phone plus`, let down by the absence of 3G and Wi-Fi but lifted by a good keyboard and impressive battery life....

Is the Nokia Asha 201 a budget BlackBerry or a Qwerty keyboard failure?...

Pros: Decent keyboard layout ; Good chat functionality

Cons: Slow connectivity ; Laggy apps ; Keyboard not crisp enough

The Nokia Asha 201 sits firmly at the budget end of the handset market -- available for a measly £45 on pay-as-you-go with Vodafone. At this rock bottom price, the competition includes lots of other Nokia handsets such as the C3, C2-01and X2, alongside other brands` budget blowers, including the LG Cookie Lite and the slightly more pricey Samsung Tocco Icon. The Asha 201 runs Nokia`s very-long-in-the-tooth Series 40 operating system, so it`s `...

Pros: Very cheap,Decent design for a budget blower,Good social networking,

Cons: Dated, sluggish interface,Spongy buttons and keyboard,No 3G or Wi-Fi,

Nokia has retired its unloved Symbian operating system forits mid- to high-end phones, setting its hopes on WindowsPhone for the future. But it`s still using it for low-enderslike the Asha 201, a budget smart phone with a QWERTY keyboard, andat this......

    Pros: Decent keyboard, budget price

Cons: Old Symbian OS, 2-megapixel camera, no 3G or Wi-Fi

Verdict: The Nokia Asha 201 is very much a budget phone but still puts up agood show for itself thanks to its decent quality keyboard, sturdybuild and social networking functions. For keeping in touch on thego -- and at a very good price -- it does a decent.....

In a time where smartphones, 4G, quad core and HD are common buzzwords, we`re sure many of you want a device that takes you back to simpler times, but with a little few extra touches so that you aren`t completely isolated from contemporary tech. That`s where the Nokia Asha 201 steps in, a £45 handset complete with Nokia`s Series 40 operating system. At the mere mention of £45, you are probably expecting it will be a phone you keep together ...

    Pros:  Lightweight, Attractive styling, Cheap

Cons:  Operating system looks and feels a bit dated, No Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity

Verdict:  The Nokia Asha 201 is a cheap mobile that looks and feels better than some devices two or three times its price, but Series 40 is a bit long in the tooth. Unless you want a throwaway phone or care little for new technology, a budget Android dev...
