Verdict

The Asus X450CA-WX214D is made for people who don't want to spend much in buying a notebook and need one only for basic tasks. Its poor RAM is justified by its price. It also lacks a good webcam and an Anti Glare display. On the positive side, it has a quality speakers and a powerful DVD drive.

Display and Design

 

The Asus X450CA-WX214D comes with a 14-inch HD LED backlit display featuring the usual WXGA resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels.  The Glare display can cause problems in viewing by reducing the colors and contrast under too bright conditions. It has been packed in a stylish grey body along with a glossy black coated lid. Its thickness of 31.7mm can prevent you from carrying the gadget over long distances.

 

Processor and OS

 

At the heart of the notebook, we have an Intel Core i3-3217U processor clocking at 1.8GHz and combined with the HM76 Express chipset. To assist the CPU, there is a RAM of just 2GB which is however expandable up to 8GB via the single DIMM slot. The graphics bit is handled by the Intel HD 4000 graphics unit. Due to the presence of inbuilt DOS of 64 bit architecture, you may have to install a separate platform.

 

Camera, Storage and Multimedia

 

The Asus X450CA-WX214D houses a simple webcam for making video calls and provides ample space for storing all kinds of files via the 500GB hard disk. Additionally, you can playback discs or burn info on them instantly courtesy the Super Multi DVD RW Drive which has support for dual layers.

 

The laptop scores well from the entertainment point of view, thanks to the stereo speakers running SonicMaster sound technology. However, you can spot only a standard touchpad and a keyboard as the input options.

 

Battery and Connectivity

 

To ensure an uninterrupted power supply for a long period of time, the Asus X450CA-WX214D comes with a 4 cell Li-ion battery on board. On the connectivity side, it has features like Ethernet Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth v4.0, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 2.0 port, VGA port, HDMI out and digital media reader.
