Verdict

The Blackberry KEY2 Red Edition comes with a flagship budget and has some amazing features that make it a perfect device. The processor is strong enough to carry out some excellent task without any lag or other glitches. It has an impressive set of cameras that click fine pictures and huge storage to keep the data and pictures in it. However, it is a qwerty keypad device, one that is not in trend now.

Type faster than ever
Display and Camera

The Blackberry KEY2 Red Edition comes with a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display lying above the qwerty keyboard. It has a display resolution of 1,080 x 1,620 pixels and a density of 433 PPI. It provides a good view and the keypad response smoothly.

For the optics, it has a 12MP + 12MP rear lens that captures amazing pictures with the low aperture and brighter finish. At the front, there is an 8MP lens with fixed focus and screen flash that helps to capture elegant selfies.

Configuration and Battery

Under the skin, the device packs an octa-core (2.2GHz quad-core Kryo 260 and 1.8GHz quad-core Kryo 260) processor seated upon the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 MSM8956. It has a 6GB RAM that helps for gaming and multitasking and an Adreno 512 GPU handles the graphics.

The power backup is derived from the 3,500mAh Li-ion battery that can last for more than a day. With this backup, it can be a great option. Also, there is a quick charging feature that fills up the battery in a very short time.

Storage and Connectivity

The Blackberry KEY2 Red Edition has an inbuilt storage of 128GB which can be huge for the users need of putting files and data. It can also expand up to 256GB with the help of a memory card.

In terms of storage, it has a Wi-Fi 802.11, a/ac/b/g/n/n 5GHz, Wi-Fi Direct, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS, Glonass, NFC, USB Type-C, etc.

BlackBerry KEY2 review: a throwback with modern sensibilities

How is it like using a keyboard-toting BlackBerry smartphone in 2018

Jul 31 2018 By Nitansh Rastogi
PROS
  • Solid build quality with a physical keyboard
  • Smooth performance
  • Versatile software with a focus on security
  • Great battery life
CONS
  • The keyboard isn't for everyone
  • Sub-par cameras
  • Priced steeply
Verdict

It`s clear that the KEY2 isn`t for everyone. While it scores well on all the hallmarks of a BlackBerry device – good build quality, a physical keyboard, software that focuses on security, and a great battery life, is that enough for a modern-day smartphone? Even for die-hard BB fans (or BlackBerry Boys, as the brand`s yesteryear`s ad used to refer to them), the answer isn`t as clear as black and white.Things become even more confusing when you bring the pricing into the mix. With a sticker price of Rs 42,990, the BlackBerry KEY2 is priced similar to some of the flagships, and yet, packs in mid-range internals. The biggest competition comes from the OnePlus 6 (review), which is a loaded handset, and is available for as low as Rs 34,990. Then there`s the competitively-priced ASUS ZenFone 5Z (review), which costs Rs 36,999 for its highest-end variant that offers flagship specs along with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. If you`re looking for something futuristic, then the recently-announced Vivo NEX (review) is an interesting option that boasts almost a full-screen fascia and top-notch hardware. However, none of these handsets can match up to what the KEY2 offers… especially when it comes to productivity and security. And therein lies the charm. All said and done, the KEY2 is the best BlackBerry smartphone you can buy, if you are willing to compromise on certain aspects and are clear on what you`re getting for your money.
