In order to make Detective Jack Mosley's limp look realistic on screen, Bruce Willis put a pebble in his shoe and kept it there throughout the length of the shoot.
Yasiin Bey's character has the name "Edward Bunker". Edward Bunker is a real-life criminal turned actor (thus proving that people can change, in line with the theme of the movie), who appeared as Mr. Blue in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (1992) and as Jonah in Runaway Train (1985) which he also co-wrote. When he was sent to prison, Bunker was the youngest man there.
Bruce Willis originally wanted Ludacris to play the role of Eddie.
Eddie Bunker, played by Yasiin Bey, cites Chuck Berry as an example of a man who was able to change his life after getting out of prison. Two years later, Yasiin Bey played the part of Chuck Berry in the movie Cadillac Records (2008).
Remake of the 1977 Clint Eastwood's movie (as director and main star) The Gauntlet (1977).
"Jack Mosley: [as an answer to Eddie Bunker's riddle] You give your car keys to your best friend, who takes your car and drives the old lady to a hospital. You stay behind with the love of your life."
"Eddie Bunker: You're driving in a hurricane and you see three people at a bus stop. One is an old lady and she's sick. One is your best friend and he saved your life. And the third is the lady of your dreams. Now check it out, you only have room for one in your car, which one do you take?"
