A number of on-line articles have criticised this film for the fact that Nicole rapes Matt and is not brought to justice for doing so, the fact that Erica acts like the rape of Matt was a case of Matt being unfaithful, and the fact that Matt subsequently apologises to Erica for having been raped.
Josh Hartnett tried to emulate his character's celibacy. He lasted for two weeks.
Ashton Kutcher and Katie Holmes were originally set to play the roles of Matt and Erica. They both dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
