During most of the filming of the shootout and chase in the beginning of the movie, temperatures were at and below zero.
Writer/Director Scott Wiper described his character of Boomer as "a guy who is down and out and rises through the ugliness at the end of the film for some sort of penance"
After about two years of looking for funding, Scott Wiper finally got the money in early 1999 to complete the film as he had hoped with the original footage that he shot in early 1997 to be used to open the film. Filming officially commenced in September 1999.
According to Writer/Director Scott Wiper, the film had been pitched around Hollywood for the better part of 1996 and then he filmed the opening sequence of the film which ran over 14 Minutes as a demonstration reel for potential investors to get funding for a completed film in January 1997. The version that appears in the finished film is close to the footage shot in 1997 minus the cutting of a few scenes that would've gotten the film an NC-17 which includes the scene where Carlos gets his head blown off by the drug dealers and more graphic shots of gunshot wounds.
Writer/Director Scott Wiper said that there were more scenes shot with Natasha Henstridge to establish the love story between Boomer and Kelly but unfortunately had to be cut for pace issues.
"Laslov: [to Flash] You want that pain in your head to go away? You transfer it. [shoots Flash in the legs]"
"[last lines] William Dexter: You'll be on the run forever. Is that really how you want to live? Boomer: I can't think of a better way. [pulls the trigger]"
