Director Konkona Sen Sharma has based this film on a story written by her father - Mukul Sharma who was married to Aparna Sen who appears in this film as the voice of Shutu's mother - over telephone calls and reading out a letter
This is only the second time that actors Om Puri and Tanuja have been cast in the same movie and shared screen space. The first was Maati Maange Khoon in 1984
Ranvir Shorey who plays the role of Vikram is the real ex-husband of the director Konkona Sen Sharma.
The voice that reads out the letter while the kabaddi match is being played, is the voice of actor-director Aparna Sen who is the mother of the director Konkona Sen Sharma. Her voice is also heard over the telephone when she talks to her screen-son Shutu
The film is winner of six awards out of 14 nominations (most that season) at 3rd FOI Online Awards in 2017. Winning categories include Best Feature Film, Best Direction (Sharma), Best Adapted Screenplay (Disha Rindani & Sharma), Best Performance By An Ensemble Cast, Best Cinematography (Sirsha Ray) and Best Background Score (Sagar Desai).
