The movie's release date, January 11th, 2013, was the original release date for Scary Movie V (2013) before the latter moved to April 12th, 2013. Marlon Wayans, who wrote and stars in "A Haunted House", was one of the creators of the "Scary Movie" franchise. Both movies spoof "Paranormal Activity".
The character of Dan the Security Man (played by David Koechner) talks about the movie Snakes on a Plane (2006). Koechner actually had a supporting role in that movie.
