Phylicia Rashad's sister, Debbie Allen, played "Beneatha Younger" in the Broadway musical, "Raisin".

TV version of the Tony award-winning 2004 play revival, with same director and most of the lead-cast: Kenny Leon, Sean 'Diddy' Combs , Phylicia Rashad, Audra McDonald, Sanaa Lathan and Bill Nunn.

Despite the character of Beneatha being 20 years old, Sanaa Lathan was 36 years old at the time of the film's release.

The Broadway production of "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theater in New York on March 11, 1959, ran for 530 performances and was nominated for the 1960 Tony Award (New York City) for the Best Play.
