Ahimsa Review

If his most recent film Ahimsa is any indication, director Teja, who was previously praised for creating new-age romantic comedies like Chitram and Jayam, still appears to be trapped in the early 2000s. His main actors interact, fight, and even dress like the characters from his earlier movies. Unfortunately, this makes for a tedious watch because the storyline likewise seems to be locked in the same time period. Ahimsa features a narrative at its centre that may serve as Raghu's coming-of-age story. Raghu believes in nonviolence but is compelled to alter his beliefs when he finds that's not how the world works. Though the world is ready to humiliate him, he could be willing to turn the other cheek. Perhaps the solution is somewhere in the middle between Ahalya and his ideals. What we get in its place is an outmoded, chaotic story about how their love endures, with an unbelievable finale. Teja creates scenes that make you hope the movie would pick up speed and the action will become more intriguing, but that never occurs. Unfortunately, the story and narrative of Ahimsa seem to be trapped in a bygone era while the rest of the world has advanced. Take what you will from that.
