Apart from India, the movie was also released in Russia, Italy, France, Hungary, Poland, Finland, Turkey and Czechoslovakia. It was a success in almost all these countries. But it became a big hit in India and Russia.

The glamorous item number "Khatooba, Khatooba" in the Indo-Russion joint venture was composed, producer F C Mehra and his director son Umesh Mehra were asked by the Russians and the Indians, what the word "Khatooba" means. They told Russians that it meant wine in Hindi and told Indians that it meant wine in Russian. In reality the word "Khatooba" has no meaning at all; it was just a creativity of Anand Bakshi and R D Burman.
