The only Alvin and the Chipmunks movie to be all digital, both in picture and in sound. The previous 3 movies had the chipmunks' voices treated via analog audio tape speed changes. "Road Chip" did not use any analog audio recording. All speed and pitch changes were done digitally.
At one point, Justin Long did not show interest in returning to voice Alvin in the fourth installment of the franchise and that he would be replaced by Matthew Lillard. However, Lillard was unavailable because he was busy working on Scooby-Doo projects and after giving it a second thought, Long returned to voice Alvin once again for this film.
This is the only film in the series not to include David Cross as Ian Hawke.
Kaley Cuoco replaces Amy Poehler as the voice of Eleanor.
Unlike the first three movies this is the first and only Alvin and the Chipmunks Live action film to have a new story plot and not a reused story plot from the original Alvin & the Chipmunks (1983) TV series.
"Alvin: Don't you judge me, John Waters, I've seen Pink Flamingos"
"[from trailer] Alvin: When I say "party", you say "Alvin". Party! Party People: Alvin! Alvin: Party! Party People: Alvin! Alvin: Party! Dave: [unplugs the plug of the dance floor] ALVIIIIIIN! Party Guy: You said that in a non-party way, man. Alvin: Woah, buzzkill."
