The film began production with no association to American Psycho (2000), and it wasn't decided to repurpose it until it had already started filming. Bret Easton Ellis, the author of the original novel, claims the studio wanted to include a serial killer subplot in The Rules of Attraction (2002) but the filmmakers objected to the idea, leading to this film.
In an interview with MTV news, Mila Kunis stated she was horrified by the fact she made this film and was happy it went straight to video.
The entire film was shot in twenty days.
Bret Easton Ellis, the author of the novel American Psycho, publicly denounced the film and stated it is absolutely not canon to his characters.
The filming title was "The Girl Who Wouldn't Die".
