The film within this animated short, " To Have - To Have - To Have - To Have - To Have - ... " is a parody of of To Have and Have Not (1944). The "Cast Off Characters" of its leads are named Bogey Gocart and Laurie Bee Cool and spoof the To Have and Have Not (1944) leads' star names of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. The Bacall name is also parodied in this cartoon's title, Bacall to Arms (1946), which is a play on the familiar military term, "A Call to Arms" which itself had been a film title many times prior to this cartoon short [See: The Call to Arms! (1900); The Call to Arms (1902); The Call to Arms (1910); The Call to Arms (1913) [aka In Love and War (1913)]; A Call to Arms Against War (1915) [aka The Battle Cry of Peace (1915)]; The Call to Arms (1917) [aka Her Country's Call (1917)]; and A Call to Arms (1918).

First of several cartoons that were left partially unfinished by Robert Clampett after his departure from Warner Bros. which had to be finished by other directors.

Originally, the audio track for the To Have and Have Not parody featured the actual audio of Bogart and Bacall from the film. However, the Warner Bros. legal department informed the producers that they could actually not re-use the film's audio track, so it had to be re-recorded with impersonators.

First Warner Bros. cartoon directed by Arthur Davis before Robert Clampett left the studio during production.
