While uncertain whether it was to be a cameo role or not, Michael Douglas was asked to reprise his Steve Keller role from the TV series in this TV film. Douglas declined due to his rather busy work schedule at the time, shooting "Shining Through" and "Basic Instinct" back to back.

This TV movie was a pilot for a TV series, but it was not picked up.

Karl Malden was 80 years old when this was released.
