Bell Bottom is inspired from real life hijacking events in 1980s in India like 1984 Indian Airlines jetliner IC 421 hijacking.
Bell bottom became the first film in the world to start and finish its shooting schedule during the covid 19 pandemic outbreak
Film faced ban in Gulf countries as they pointed out that in1984 hijacking incident actually had the United Arab Emirates Defence Minister Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the UAE authorities nabbing the hijackers.But the film shows RAW doing the part.
In an interview, Lara Dutta mentioned that she had a personal connection with this role, as her father was a personal pilot to the former PM of India, Indira Gandhi.
The gap of more than 1.5 year between the theatrical release of Good Newwz(December 2019) and Bell Bottom(July 2021) is the longest for Akshay Kumar's career where as in pre covid times he used to deliver a film in every 3 months on an average.
