Each of the Toa share the same basic body-type in this movie, the only exception being Nokama, the female Toa of Water. She seems to have what appears to be a cleavage, with the upper panel of her chest-plate missing. The pair of mechanical gears underneath also seem to more prominent than the ones of her male companions, even if smaller. While this doesn't make perfect sense in the BIONICLE world, it does help to make her gender instantly determinable. Recent years have seen rabid complaining among fans because the newer female Toa characters look rather masculine.
The Toa Metru, heroes of the movie, never use their element-based abilities and powers during the film, yet they come across several situations when they would be really needed. The reason for this is that their elemental energies have been almost depleted during other (off-screen) fights, and were recharging during the movie. These adventures were told in the book series before the movie came out.
The trailer featured Toa Lhikan with a different voice.
The huge poster of Turaga Dume that Toa Matau crashes into in Ko-Metru has the Matoran writing for "play well", the official slogan of the Lego company. The company name "Lego" comes from the two Danish words "LEg GOdt", which means "play well".
Matau's flirtatious advances towards Nokama have been declared non-canon by the official Bionicle story writer, as according to him, the characters aren't capable of feeling romantic love. These were just gags used for the movie.
"Whenua: Oh, this is just great. When I woke up, all I worried about was cataloging. Now I go down in history as Metru Nui's most wanted. Onewa: [scoffs] You? I'm the one suffering here, stuck with a Ko-Matoran big brain, and an Onu-Matoran stock boy!"
"Nidhiki: This time, your farewell will be forever, brother. Lhikan: You lost the right to call me "brother" long ago!"
