TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Initially, it was going to be filmed under the title Buccaneer Empire directed by Robert Stevenson with a cast headed by Robert Mitchum, Faith Domergue, Victor Mature and Jack Buetel.

Boris Karloff and Charles Laughton were considered for the Blackbeard role.

Opening credits: This photoplay is based on certain actual and outstanding events in the lives of its principal characters, but the other events and the other characters, except those representing persons whose true names are used, are fictional.

Some of scenes of boarding and fighting on the decks of the ships are "recycled" from The Spanish Main (1945).

No, your eyes and ears aren't playing tricks on you - The grog-guzzling, feisty lady-in-waiting to Linda Darnell's character is indeed...Granny Clampett! The part of Alvina is played by Irene Ryan who, ten years after appearing here, created the iconic role of the sassy, possum-pie-making family matriarch on TV's The Beverly Hillbillies.

Popular Dialogues
