The title is a photography term for the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in out-of-focus parts of an image.

The film was crowdfunded through Kickstarter.

Shot in 30 days at 60 locations around Iceland.

Co-director/writer Andrew Sullivan pitched the initial idea on July 2, 2013 and they finished principal photography on June 29, 2014. The film wasn't released until three years later.
