The story is completely autobiographical and came to life as a way for Anna Alfieri to cope with her life circumstances.
Anna was initially writing the film as she was going through her real life events, trying to shoot at the same time. However, she had to put production on hold for 2 months, after her first cinematographer called it quits out of lack of belief in the film. Finding the perfect director of photography took Anna 2 months, more than a 100 applicants and about a dozen test shoots with her co-lead actress (Agathe Ferre') who had, by that time, been confirmed for the part.
All the scenes were loosely improvised around a 12 pages skeleton that kept being revised over the shooting period. The overall amount of improvised footage was around 40 hours, with almost every scene shot in one take, with the camera constantly following the action.
All the flashbacks in the film were shot in chronological order to allow the actresses to reconstruct a love story as organically as possible.
Anna decided to keep her original name and surname to preserve the story's rawness and authenticity.
"Anna Alfieri: Should I surrender to my craving for you... Or use the lack of you as my fuel?"
"Anna Alfieri: Have you ever ridden a motorbike at one hundred miles per hour? And found yourself thinking: "What if the end was here?" And then wondered whether you would have been lucky enough to think the same again and tell someone about it. And then thought: "Maybe, at the end of the day it wouldn't make any difference. Maybe, at the end of the day the thought of that is not that scary." And then looked at yourself from the outside and thought: "This cannot be my life!". You try and make sense out of things, and yet you can't. People need to fill their lives with noise to feel like they are alive. I don't wanna hear any noise in my brain. All this buzzing. All this chaos. I just wanna listen to my fucking inner voice. Get to the core of things. Get to the truth. In this big, fat, bundle!"
