The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is an awards program for youths, coaxing them into areas of self-improvement including sports and hiking. Director Ninian Doff took part in it when he was at school though he didn't make it to the highest level (gold).
The original title - "Boyz n the Wood" - was changed following the untimely death of John Singleton out of respect for him.
"Get Duked" was actually the working title for the film.
Filmed in The Scottish Borders. Not the Highlands. In and around the Mennock Pass and Wanlockhead.
Kate Dickie and James Cosmo appeared in the series Game of Thrones (2011-2019).
