The production shoot for this picture went for six weeks.

Second of five theatrical feature films that British television director Ken Hannam made in Australia. The other films were Sunday Too Far Away (1975), Summerfield (1977), Dawn! (1979) and Robbery Under Arms (1985).

Producer Patricia Lovell originally offered the directing job on this film to director Peter Weir who had directed Lovell's previous period film Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) about a year earlier.

Collaborating on this film were director Ken Hannam and production designer Wendy Dickson who were a married couple.
