Halle Berry's directorial debut. The movie was originally set to be directed by Nick Cassavetes and star Blake Lively, before Berry took over both roles.
Halle Berry is famously a massive fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and attends live events regularly. Among the cast of Bruised (2020) is one of the most dominant fighters in the history of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA); Valentina "Bullet" Shevchenko - Current reigning champion in the UFC woman's flyweight division. Also appearing is the 6 ft 2 tall former Rizin-fighter Gabi Garcia.
Julie Kedzie, who plays the female commentator for the final fight, is the real life colour commentator for Invicta FC.
At 6 minutes and 15 seconds, Jackie (Halle Berry) says her actions were "super necessary," which is a direct reference to Jorge Masvidal (UFC welterweight fighter) infamously stating his extra punches on a clearly knocked out Ben Askren were "super necessary."
Halle Berry brought in playwright and screenwriter Stephen Adly Guirgis to help shape the screenplay into a more realistic view of the characters and world it's depicting.
"Jackie Justice: You seem to do everything right. Buddhakan: No one decides to become all zen and practice meditation and all that 'cause they did everything right."
"Angel McQueen: Look, this ain't my mess. This is your mess. For once in your life, girl, handle your business."
