The house where Billy Brown's parents live in the film is the very same house where Vincent Gallo lived with his parents growing up.
Of the $1.5 million budget, $20,000 was spent on Anjelica Huston's wig alone.
Mickey Rourke was going through tough times with both career and finances. According to an interview Rourke stated that Gallo offered him a small part on the movie and paid him with a paper bag containing $100,000
Christina Ricci choreographed her tap dance in the bowling alley scene.
Original cinematographer Dick Pope was fired during preproduction for opposing Vincent Gallo's decision to shoot on reversal film. Gallo intended to act as cinematographer himself but the bond company insuring the film would not allow it. Gallo then hired Lance Acord, who was at the time a non-union cinematographer who had never shot a feature.
"[Trying to start Layla's car] Billy Brown: Is this a shifter car? I cannot drive a shifter car, alright, so we got a little situation here. I can't drive these kinda cars! What the fuck is goin' on! You think that's funny? Would you like to know, smartass? Would you like to know why I can't drive this kinda car? I'll tell you why, I'm used to *luxury* cars. Have you ever heard of a luxury car? You know what luxury means? Ever heard of Cadillac, Cadillac Eldorado? That's what I drive. I drive cars that *shift* themselves."
"Billy Brown: We're taking pictures like we're a couple. Like we like each other. Like we're husband and wife, and we *span* time together. We *span* time together as a couple. Because we're a loving couple, *spanning* time. These photos are us, in love, *spanning* time."
