TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Brad Renfro was arrested during filming for attempting to steal a yacht.

The movie was shot in 23 days in August 2000.

In 2018, Daniel Franzese revealed that Bijou Phillips had been extremely cruel to him and subjected him to a lot of homophobic and fat-shaming bullying while they were on the set, saying that she kept trying to goad him into admitting that he was gay years before he came out as such and that she laughed at his appearance when he removed his shirt at a pool party and had even twisted one of his nipples. He also said that the producers looked the other way and allowed her behavior to continue as she came from a famous family. However Franzese did note that his co-stars Michael Pitt, Brad Renfro and Nick Stahl all repeatedly and vocally stood up for him and called Phillips out on her behavior, with Stahl trying to convince her to apologize.

Although the events upon which the film is based take place in 1993, the film itself is deliberately not set in 1993, but in 2000 when it was filmed, to avoid any potential problems with anachronisms.

Bobby Kent and his family were Iranian. He moved to the U.S. during the Iranian Revolution in 1979 when he was six. "Kent" is his anglicized last name, the family name originally being Khayam.

Popular Dialogues

"Donny: Shit, I never knew nobody who killed somebody. Alice 'Ali' Willis: Me neither. Heather: Just my grandpa. I never knew him. Yeah. My grandpa was a bad drunk. Really bad. He'd rape anyone dumb enough to walk by his room and one night... he got... um, really pissed at my grandma and he took a claw hammer to her face. And, uh, after that, he just... he locked himself up with her in his room for two whole days and he kept drinking and having sex with her after she was dead. My mom was in the house the whole time. Donny: Fuck. Heather: She was only 15. Alice 'Ali' Willis: Holy shit. Heather: You know, it really messed with her head. After that, she only hung out with guys who beat the hell out of her. And when I was little, she'd get drunk and she'd drag me and my brother out of bed at, like, four in the morning and she had all the news clippings about my grandpa and the trial transcriptions and she'd read them over and over again. And I knew every word before kindergarten. I think that's how I learned to read."

"Lisa's Mom: You guys don't work, you don't go to school, you don't do anything. All you do is lay around and drive your cars and eat us out of house and home. You know how that makes me feel? [Long pause] Donny: Mad."
