Rotten TomatoesNetflix's live-action adaptation of the beloved manga and anime series Saint Seiya, titled Knights of the Zodiac, may disappoint longtime fans. While it attempts to capture the essence of the original story, it heavily relies on the poorly received 2019 CGI series, which diverged from the beloved source material. The classic anime adaptation, known for its gradual world-building and engaging storytelling, remains unparalleled. Unfortunately, the live-action version sacrifices these elements and resorts to exposition-heavy dialogue and defanged action sequences. The plot revolves around Alman Kido (played by Sean Bean) training Seiya (Mackenyu) to protect Kido's daughter, Sienna (Madison Iseman), who is the reincarnation of Athena, from Guraad (Famke Janssen) and her paramilitary organization. This deviation from the original manga and anime, in favor of the 2019 series, leaves fans questioning the creative choices behind this adaptation. Furthermore, the film's dimly lit visuals and departure from the vibrant aesthetics of the source material further hinder its ability to captivate audiences.
