Saif Ali Khan was cast in the place of Abhishek Bachchan in the sequel and this marks his first collaboration with YRF after 12 years.
Though starring and receiving Best Actor nominations for the first one, Abhishek Bachchan declined to return for the sequel in a video titled "Why Abhishek Bachchan Is Not In Bunty Aur Babli 2" by Toronto Wire on Youtube. It would go on to explain he did not return due to a busy schedule filming Ludo, Breathe : Into the Shadows, Bob Biswas, The Big Bull and Son of the Soil. Coupled that with a strained relationship with Yash Raj Films.
At YRF studios among other places, Bunty Aur Babli is represented by a mural of Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. The sequel will have neither of these actors reprise their role or be in the film.
