    Lucas Simons has become obsessed with death following the loss of his older brother. A shy child, Lucas spends most of his free time filming funerals in an attempt to understand what happens when we die. When Lucas accidentally captures a mysterious presence in one of his films and posts it online, he inadvertently becomes a YouTube phenomenon and the target of media speculation. Suddenly, he and his grief-numbed parents find themselves thrust into the spotlight, shaking them out of their complacency while complicating their relationship. Lucas's quest for answers leads him toward an unlikely friendship with Chris Brighton (Tim Meadows), a local author who died for nine minutes and lived to tell about it. The film was shot in May, 2013, under the title 'Anyone's Ghost'. A 1 minute 24 second teaser video was published 8/30/2013 under the title "Anyone's Ghost". Its official trailer video was published 11/11/2013 under the title "Chasing Ghosts". The use of "Anyone's Ghost" as the title of a single by the band "The National" may have contributed to the film's title change.

Mace Coronel auditioned for the part of Lucas but they decided to go with an older boy and chose Toby Nichols.

Bryson Sams was originally cast as the role of "Lucas," but when it was decided that the character should be younger, Sams was given the role of the older brother.
