TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

David Niven was partially dubbed by Rich Little as Niven was terminally ill with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) at the time and his voice was too frail to register.

This movie was intended to spin-off the character of Clifton Sleigh as the next Inspector Clouseau in a series of new Pink Panther movies, but it never took off. Ten years later, a sequel was made, with Clouseau's son picking up the mantle in Son of the Pink Panther (1993), but this didn't take off either.

Sir Roger Moore's scenes were filmed all in one day outside London at the same time Octopussy (1983) was filmed.

The odd name featured during the closing credits, "Turk Thrust II", was a pseudonym for Sir Roger Moore. The name was a nod to Moore's friend Bryan Forbes, who often used the name "Turk Thrust" when playing cameos in his own movies. Forbes was actually billed as "Turk Thrust" in A Shot in the Dark (1964), in which he played an attendant at a nudist camp.

This movie began production immediately after principal photography on Trail of the Pink Panther (1982) wrapped.

Popular Dialogues

"Countess Chandra: Darling? Chief Insp. Jacques Clouseau: Yes, my darling? Countess Chandra: You're smoking the wrong end. Chief Insp. Jacques Clouseau: Yes... I knew that. You don't have to tell me I am smoking zhe wrong end. Do you know why I am smoking zhe wrong end? Countess Chandra: No darling, but I'm sure you've got a very good reason. Chief Insp. Jacques Clouseau: You're right! I am smoking on zhe wrong end, because I have a very good reason."

"Sergeant Francois Duval: [Visiting Dreyfus in hospital after Sergent Sleigh knocked him out his office window] Is there anything I can do for you? [Dreyfus groans in pain] Sergeant Francois Duval: Are you in much pain? Chief Insp. Charles LaRousse Dreyfus: My leg hurts, but my throat is killing me. Sergeant Francois Duval: You nearly choked to death on a goldfish Chief Insp. Charles LaRousse Dreyfus: Where is he? Sergeant Francois Duval: I don't know, I don't think they kept it. Chief Insp. Charles LaRousse Dreyfus: Not the fish! Detective Sleigh!"
