The role of Starkey was originally offered to Robert Carlyle, but he had to drop out when the shoot dates were changed and he became unavailable.

When Dan meets the priest he is seeing doing up his shirt. This is a reference to a scene in the original book which is not in the film.

The painting of the young Indian girl is a reference to Colin Bateman's Maid of the Mist

The Post Office exterior scene is an insurance brokers in Pomeroy, County Tyrone.

The scene set at a market on Bangor seafront was actually filmed in nearby Donaghadee.
