TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Writer and director David Lynch has said he considers this movie the only real failure of his career. To this day, he refuses to talk about the production in great detail, and has refused numerous offers to work on a Special Edition DVD. Lynch had always claimed that revisiting the movie would be too painful an experience to endure. Many fans hoped that he would eventually come around and in an article published in Esquire during 2022, he did indeed say that a Director's Cut could happen.

The suits worn by the Guild members were body bags that were found in a disused fire station dating back to the early 1920s. The bags had actually been used several times, something that was kept from the cast members until after shooting was completed.

Sir Patrick Stewart said the stillsuit was the most uncomfortable costume he had ever worn. Max von Sydow said the same, but also said he put up with it, because he loved the way his body looked in them.

Sir Patrick Stewart was, at that time, completely unfamiliar about who Sting was as a musician. When meeting him on-set, he asked if he was a solo artist, to which Sting replied he was in a band called The Police. Stewart, totally unaware, thought Sting played in a police-band.

Writer and director David Lynch turned down Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) to direct this movie, telling George Lucas, "It's your thing, it's not my thing."

Popular Dialogues

"Paul: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will let it pass over me and through me. And when it has passed I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where it has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

"Duke Leto Atreides: I'll miss the sea, but a person needs new experiences. They jar something deep inside, allowing him to grow. Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken."
