"Emergency Declaration" is a Korean disaster film that misses the mark on delivering any thrills or excitement. Despite boasting a star-studded cast, the movie disappoints with its calculated attempts to manipulate the audience with weak scare tactics and a contrived plot. The story revolves around a terrorist who unleashes a deadly virus on a flight bound for Honolulu, and the captain and crew's heroic efforts to save the passengers' lives. However, the overly florid villain's backstory and unpleasant dialogue fail to make the audience invested in any character's fate. The film's mid-pandemic release and hokey celebratory narrative seem tone-deaf and premature, and even the supposed triumph of the human spirit falls short of convincing. In short, "Emergency Declaration" is a poorly executed disaster film that fails to entertain or engage its audience, despite its promising premise and talented cast.
