IMDbMemories of Murder, a South Korean movie, delivers exactly what it has to offer. Although many Korean movies that have ever been made are a bit slow and the development of the story takes a little time, this movie proves just the opposite and dispels the myth about Korean movies. It proved that the entertainment industry in South Korea has the ability to make good movies no matter the genre. Memories of Murder, in our opinion, may be better than so many other Hollywood movies that have ever been made that involved investigating a case. The main characters of the movie, played by Kang-ho Song and Sang-kyung Kim, have played their parts religiously. Considering it is a thriller movie, there are some parts in the movie that are quite funny, which makes this movie a must watch! Definitely add this movie to your list of must-watch movies, and we assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Beginning in June 2000, it took Bong Joon Ho a year to write the script for Memories of Murder (2003), yet he has stated that: "For the first six months, I didn't write a line of the script. I just did research."
In order to make his character Detective Seo look properly worn-out by the stress of the case, actor Kim Sang-kyung deliberately limited his food intake and slept fewer hours.
One deleted scene shows detective Cho walking in a red light district, and then getting a massage from a girl as he asks her about possible leads regarding the murders. The scene was shot in a real red light district in the city of Jeonju and featured real sex workers. They had to ask the local pimp for permission to film.
Lee Choon-jae confessed to the crimes that the film is based on in 2019. He admitted to watching it, saying: "I just watched it as a movie, I had no feeling or emotion towards the movie."
Bong Joon Ho has stated that the script for Memories of Murder (2003) was directly influenced by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's comic book From Hell, and that he was also "a bit disappointed with the Hughes brothers' film of it."
"[last lines] Detective Park Doo-Man: Did you see his face? [Girl Nods] Detective Park Doo-Man: What did he look like? Schoolgirl: Well... kind of plain. Detective Park Doo-Man: In what way? Schoolgirl: Just... ordinary"
"Detective Cho Yong-koo: I only beat you up because I care about you."
