TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Hydrazine has been used for decades in spacecraft as thruster propellant and as fuel for auxiliary power units. It is corrosive and extremely toxic.

The BOOK "2010: Odyssey Two" by Arthur C. Clarke includes a Chinese spacecraft landing on Europa with similar results as this movie. However, the MOVIE version of 2010 excludes this.

The space ship was designed through computer graphics, giving high detail to the camera angles to be used in the film. Weightlessness was simulated with balance balls, suspension from wires was used for interior shots. The flooding ship was filmed on a one-third scale model.

Fake Nationality: South African Sharlto Copley as an American, Swede Michael Nyqvist and Polish-American Karolina Wydra as Russians, and Romanian Anamaria Marinca as a Britanian. At least the Chinese astronaut is from Hong Kong.

The creature's design included bioluminescence from the initial concepts. The visual effects supervisor stated that the creature was based on a cross of an octopus and a squid, with early sketches resembling a jellyfish and a manta ray.

Popular Dialogues

"Rosa Dasque: Compared to the breadth of knowledge yet to be known... what does your life actually matter?"

"Andrei Blok: What would you do if you get out there and find nothing? William Xu: Well, even if we found nothing it's an effective discovery."
